Married on the dock.

Saturday, August 22, another couple was married at Elbow Lake Lodge.

This wedding was on our swimming beach and dock. Great food, dancing, and drinks followed.

Howling wolves, shooting stars, and calling loons.

Friday night, we crossed the lake to put the kids to bed. With no moon, the starts were brilliant. We crossed on a glassy lake, saw satellites moving through the sky, the milky way and shooting stars. When we reached the dock, we heard loons calling each other from distant bays and the faint but distinct howling of wolves behind our cabin. For 45 minutes, we could hear about a dozen wolves yipping, howling and running around. Between busy periods of howling, we would howl to the wolves and they would return with a chorus of yips, and other excited howls.

The Walleye Bite Is On.

A couple of days ago, a guest cast off of our swimming dock and landed a walleye right in front of us all. Although, we often see walleye come in we don't always think of them in our swimming area.

For a few days now, fisherman have been bringing in their daily limit of Walleye. Just last night, I was giving a tour of the lake to some friends on our pontoon boat. I threw out a jointed rapala, and even our short trip produced a number of fish including one nice northern.

Meet Lee our Manager!

Lee joined our team at Elbow Lake Lodge late last summer.

Lee was a pastor for 18 years before working for Elbow Lake Lodge. His onsite leadership has really improved our guests experience by expanding our guest services and bringing other talented staff on board.

During summer, Lee spends nearly every day on site entertaining guests and running the resort. The rest of the year, Lee coordinates our small group retreats and weddings.

Lee and his family live in Cook, just minutes from the lodge.

King of the Lode

During our last trip to the Twin Cities from Elbow Lake Lodge, we made a quick stop in Virginia to the "Mineview in the Sky." You can observe one of the old mine pits, see some of the mining equipment, and stop at their gift store.

This picture is of the 240-ton mining truck "King of the Lode"

Ray Ranta Stopped By

A past owner and operator who turned the resort into "Elbow Lake Lodge" stopped by today.

Ray came for a quick visit and we had a nice time visiting. A lot has changed at Elbow Lake since he owned it like remodeled cabins, lodge and a new office building. But some things are still the way the were decades ago. The lake is still quiet and clean. The beach is still as beautiful and the fresh air and forest are still unchanged.

Enjoying our last week of July.

Another full week at Elbow Lake Lodge. Guests are swimming, catching fish, and hanging out in the lodge.

There are a ton of kids here and they are all having a great time. Kids club has been full, bikes are all around and the water toys are getting wet. Kids love Elbow Lake Lodge because they have a great big resort to run around in and parents know they can be safe here.

I've seen a ton of games, finished puzzles, and cards being played all week.

Fun on a rainy week

Here we are in mid-July and we have had a few cold and windy days. But we have all been enjoying hanging out inside the lodge. We watched the All-Star game, played cards, board games, enjoyed kids activities, and families had an opportunity to just spend good time together.

Take your kids out of school or sports special!

From time to time, we offer fun specials for our guests. At Elbow Lake Lodge, we believe in families, and we believe they should spend time together. As summers have gotten smaller and smaller from expanding school years and sports schedules, we have come up with some fun ways for families to take advantage of some of the last parts of summer.

Right now, and as long as it is posted on our website, you can take this opportunity for your family to take an end of summer vacation:

"From August 20 to September 4 you can save 25% on your reservation by showing us your childs school or sports schedule where you miss a practice, game, or day during your stay with us. Is one pracitice really worth $500 (average savings on one week)?"

If you are interested in specials for Elbow Lake Lodge see us at www.elbowlake.com or call 800-441-1620.

4th of July, 2009!

The sun was shining. Everyone was having fun. The 4th of July kicked off our summer season.

We had a tug of war tournament, sand castle building contest, a mini-golf tournament, and a barbeque.

54 inch muskie in our freezer!

A guest caught a 54 inch Muskie the week before the 4th of July! Visiting a nearby lake, this guest brought back an absolutely huge fish and we stored it for him until he could find a taxidermist.

Fishing is very good on Elbow Lake. You can find a number of species and frequently find large fish. Our lake has very little pressure and great structure. If you want to change things up for a day, nearby lakes are easy to access.

Fishing guides are available, both on Elbow Lake and other nearby lakes. Please call us at 800-441-1620 to find out more.

Elbow Lake Lodge on LakeshoreDreams.com radio show!

Lakeshoredreams.com visited Elbow Lake Lodge this 4th of July to record its radio show. You can listen to the show on the Patriot or on the ElbowLake.com.

We discussed a number of topics including the history of Elbow Lake Lodge, group retreats, and investment cabins.

Excellent Fishing 2009

2009 has been another great year of fishing. The Walleye bite has been solid and an emergence of large bluegill has added to the excitement. You can always count on small mouth and sunfish for fun kids fishing off our docks as well.
